City Sketches is an aural perspective of the Detroit urban landscape by Wayne State University composer, James Hartway.
|
|
City Sketches (1987), a five movement piano trio inspired by Detroit city scenes, is performed by the St. Clair Trio. Songs for Ronnie (1986) is a setting of seven short poems by Ronald Cooney for soprano and piano[Ernestine Nimmons and Fedora Horowitz]. Detours (1988), for flute and harp [Larson/Allvin Duo] is characterized by jazz-like harmonies and rhythms. Basho (1990), based on the 'haiku' of the 17th- century Japanese poet Basho, is performed on prepared piano by Flavio Varani. Metropolitan Dark Cities (1989), performed by organist Ray Ferguson and baritone Glenn Carlos, depicts the plight of man in a modern metropolis. And Then There Were None (1987), for bassoon [Peter Schoenbach], was composed in response to the tragic prevalence of teen murder in Detroit. |
